so eventually the song did end up in a commercial.
could have been worse i guess. also, i donīt mind - as long as the generated money gets us new music and tour... ;)

Thanks for posting those! I saw the commercials for the first time yesterday. They were on a LOT!

I'll have to keep an eye out for those.

I've always felt that as long as the song wasn't written for the product then everything's kosher. Artists deserve to make money just as much as us working stiffs.

i don't understand where you are coming from with this statement.
if a band writes a jingle or a song specifically for a product why is that less 'kosher' than selling the rights to their song to be used to promote a product?

and, just for the record, i believe all band's have the right to decide for themselves how they want their work to be used or represented.
however, it does sometimes break my heart to hear classic rock music that i grew up loving being used to advertise certain products/services that i abhor or being used in a really annoying advertisement campaign.
for example, currently, Foreigner's song 'Hot Blooded' is being used in a really annoying promo for an american beer. it's not the beer which i abhor, it is the manner in which the song is being used in a totally obnoxious ad. i suppose once the band sold the rights to their song, they had no control over how their song is being represented in the advertisment.

Fair enough. I suppose what I meant was that I personally don't see the harm in a band licensing their music for a commercial, while I would probably view it as a little more of an intrusion into the artistic process if a band I liked started churning out jingles instead of songs and it would disappoint me. Simply a matter of opinion.

Is it good vodka?

I'm really wondering if BRMC get the money or the suckers from Virgin.

Both get some money. VIrgin probably gets more as copyright holders.

Ketel is not bad vodka, it just is one of those overmarketed and overpriced "luxury" brands (like Grey Goose, Belvedere, et al). Cheap-ass Stolichnaya is still better.

I drink very very rarely (usually only when it's force-fed *cough* or by request *coughcough*), but I think Ketel One is better than most vodkas. It's quite smooth.

See, that is because of vodka marketing since the 50s and 60s in the US. Vodka, according to them, should be smooth and almost tasteless - perfect for mixed drinks / (mart)inis (plus, not too bad a hangover, no bad breath, fewer calories - a lot of other half truths). Perfect for the Playboy 50s, the Bond 60s, etc. But i am sure all our eastern european boardies, scandinavians and russians / ukranians could tell us that vodka is supposed to have taste and a tad of burn.

It is still my fave drink though, mixed or neat and chilled :)

Haha! Good thing I live here in the U.S. then. Part of the reason I don't drink is that I hate the taste of alcohol! I'm also a control freak and don't like losing my senses, but that's neither here nor there. :)

I saw those commercials ... well heard'em, wasn't paying much attention to what was on (racing, of the indy car type? it's so sad how low the Indianapolis 500 has sunk). I couldn't read the label on the vodka very well, was wondering if it was "rebel something"? that would have been too rich!

Well, as long as they don't over-do it*, I don't mind some corporation helping keep my favorite band afloat.

*advertizing some silly product, or running the commercial every 10 minutes all day all night....
